Community Justice is an emerging concept describing an approach to community problems that affect children and families. It has three major themes that operate together in an integrated manner:
  • The principles of Restorative Justice (restitution to the victim, building a safe community, and holding the offender accountable) guide how criminal acts are handled by the justice system and the community,
  • Prevention strategies and programs are highly prioritized by policy makers, politicians, leaders, and community citizens, and
  • Community Life is enhanced and sustained by citizens sharing the responsibility for social order with trained professionals in creative partnerships and using the best practices in community development.

Community Justice is non-competitive and non-contradictory; it Community Justice Logorelies on all sectors of the community to collectively participate in bringing attention and resources to community problems.

Community Justice emphasizes crime prevention in new, problem-oriented ways and does what is appropriate, just, and necessary to preserve community safety and well-being.
